Do you remember Jacaré vs. Tererê in 2004

It was that year’s black belt absolute final.

Tererê had won the middleweight division in grand style. He had three matches, choke out his opponents in the first two and handed Paulo Guillobel a 12-2 drubbing in the final.

At medium heavyweight, Jacaré did no differently. First he oustretched Pascoal de Castro’s arm and then choked out Fábio Nascimento. The final was a hard-fought affair with Bráulio Estima. The highlight was Jacaré fastening a triangle around Carcará’s neck. The loss Bráulio will be looking to avenge in the superfight at ADCC 2011, in England.

Part 1:

Already face to face, a bit before the two champions greet each other, Jaca defined how the final would be: “This fight’s going to be whipping!”

And it did. The Oswaldo Alves student started out 100 miles an hour, as our reporter Raphael Nogueira stated in GRACIEMAG 88.

Tererê would only understand the meaning of “whipping” when the Amazonas state native gave his collar a violent tug toward the ground. Tererê landed on the mat on his knees and went reactionless for a few seconds. Twas enough time for Jacaré to take his back and open a four-point lead.

The two-time absolute world champion forged ahead in attacking. He didn’t get the finish, but he won, rounding out a perfect Pan campaign.

Part 2:

The cheerful Rio de Janeiro native Tererê wasn’t too bothered with the loss and stated that he was happy to have helped provide moments of top-notch Jiu-Jitsu: “That was a lot of fun for me. What’s important is that the crowd liked it. I’m going to keep going up against the big guys. Some day it’ll be my turn!”
